Hi I’m Patrick Hickey, if you’ve come across @lchistorytutor or @jchistorytutor, that’s me. I set the page up during Covid to share a few resources and it took off in a way I never expected.
I’ve kept at it since: sharing resources and approaches to teaching history across all levels, answering questions from teachers and students, and being the person you can ask when you’re not sure, or when you just want a second opinion, and then good news is I have taken a career break this year to be able to do more of it!

About Past Forward
Past Forward is the textbook series I’m writing for the new Leaving Certificate History specification. It’s built around what the specification actually asks of students: working with sources, weighing up competing interpretations, and hearing the voices that older accounts left out.
Every chapter comes with a suite of resources behind it, all designed to put you, the teacher, in the strongest possible position to introduce this course, and to give your students the support they need to reach their potential.
Right now I’m on a career break, writing Past Forward, a book and resource series for the new Leaving Cert History specification. It won’t hit classrooms until 2027, so until then I’m putting everything into the classes you have in front of you this year, Junior Cycle and Leaving Cert. Think of it as a taste of what’s coming.
There’ll be free teacher resources added here all year, and some apps I’m building that you’re welcome to use with your students. Make sure to check it out and let me know what you think or would like to see on it.
